Social Reponsibility And The Future of Gaming

The Imagine Cup revealed a new era in gaming, one that yearns to teach us about the UN’s top 8 concerns and the need to find solutions.  What the teams have developed through the Imagine Cup open up a new realm in gaming, one that sends a different message to its players. The gaming industry has come to stand for so much but never for social responsibility. certainly teams like To Be Announced and Team Blob should have not only the support of everyone in the gaming industry but they should be celebrated at events such as this because while they are meant to teach and enhance our understanding of the world and the need to address serious social issues it keeps people engaged in gaming and that is as important to people like Nintendo, Disney, Zynga, Steam as it is to developers around the world. Microsoft shouldn’t be the only one who gets it. And we should all be asking to see it and be able to play it because when these heavyweights see that it isn’t all about shoot ’em up then perhaps we’ll finally engage a generation that says they want to make a difference.  Now they’ll see how.    Stay tuned for episodes direct from E3 this June 15-17 in Los Angeles.
